The Art & Play of Movement Creation

Service Description

No previous rope or dance background necessary, although some vertical experience may be helpful. This workshop is best if the students are ok working within small groups of 2-4 people. It is possible to participate without collaborating with other students, if desired. Do you feel stuck or unmotivated to create movement outside of skills with your work & practice? Or perhaps just alone in what seems to be a very niche interest of artistic movement intertwined with a rope practice? Do you thrive off bouncing ideas off of other like-minded or open-minded movers, collaborating with others and building something with another person? Join Christine (& possibly the other co-creators) exploring their discoveries while trying to create ensemble rope work from across the country & globe. This workshop is inspired by MoDa Movement Co's virtual collaboration with Mimi Ke, Hannah Barrett & Lily Rubin-Miller. This group of movers met with Christine virtually for a few weeks and gave each other movement prompts and "homework" tasks. These meetings combined movement creation exercises and concepts from four different movement backgrounds & perspectives. Christine recorded and detailed these exercises, since it seemed to offer endless material creation, with the challenge ultimately being remembering the sequencing. Enjoy working *with* (and not just alongside) of your classmates, create something together, then take it apart and learn to manipulate the movements in a new and unique way.
